Airport Travel Questions — Answered

The most common questions travelers search before flying — answered once, clearly, for every airport.

Every airport guide on this site covers the same 8 topics: terminal maps and layouts, arrivals and departures, ground transport (train, taxi, rideshare, bus), parking rates (short-term, long-term, economy), car rental locations and procedures, hotels near the airport with shuttle information, airport lounges (access rules, hours, Priority Pass), and dining and shopping by terminal. All guides are kept updated and are free to use.
Each airport guide on this site includes a dedicated parking section with all available lot types and their current rate ranges. Generally, economy lots (connected by shuttle or ATS train) offer the lowest daily rates — often 50% to 70% cheaper than short-term garage parking. For trips over 48 hours, economy lots are almost always the best value. We also flag which airports offer online pre-booking discounts. Use the search bar above to find your specific airport.
At most major airports, all rental car companies are located in a centralized Rental Car Center (RCC) or Multi-Modal Facility — not inside the terminal building. You reach it via a free automated train (like SkyConnect at Tampa or the ATS at Chicago O'Hare) or a shuttle bus. Each airport guide explains exactly how to get from baggage claim to the rental car center, which companies operate there, and what the return process looks like.
There are four main ways to access airport lounges without a premium ticket: (1) Priority Pass — a lounge membership program accepted at thousands of lounges worldwide (Swissport at ORD, for example). (2) Day passes — most Admirals Clubs and United Clubs sell single-day access for $59. (3) Premium credit cards — Amex Platinum gives Centurion Lounge access, Amex Gold gives Delta Sky Club access with a Delta boarding pass. (4) Airline status — Star Alliance Gold, OneWorld Sapphire/Emerald holders often get lounge access. Each airport guide lists every lounge with its specific access rules.
It depends on the airport and time of day. At most major airports: Train or metro is the cheapest and most reliable option — $2 to $10 at US airports, similar in Europe. During rush hour it usually beats taxis and rideshare on time too. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) is convenient for groups with luggage but subject to surge pricing. Taxis are available 24/7 outside every terminal with metered fares. Private transfers offer fixed pricing and meet-and-greet service — useful for business travel or groups. Each airport guide lists every option with typical costs and journey times to the city center.
The standard recommendation is 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. However, at large and busy airports like Chicago O'Hare, Atlanta, or JFK, you should add 30 minutes during morning peak (6–9 AM) and evening peak (4:30–7:30 PM). TSA PreCheck or CLEAR significantly reduce security wait times. At smaller regional airports, 90 minutes is usually sufficient for domestic flights.
Each individual airport guide includes a private transfer booking widget where you can compare and book door-to-door airport transfers with fixed pricing and no surge rates. For parking and hotels, we provide detailed comparison information — rates, locations, shuttle details — and link to official booking pages. We are a guide-first platform: our goal is to give you enough information to make the best decision, not to push you toward any particular booking.
All guides on this site are actively maintained. Major airport guides (ORD, TPA, MIA, CDG, LIS) were updated in June 2026. Parking rates, lounge access rules, and airline terminal assignments change regularly — we review each guide when airlines make significant changes, when new terminals open, or when pricing updates are published by airports. You can see the last update date at the top of each individual airport guide.
